Melissa Wolfe?Text Box: Melissa is a Ph.D. candidate in American art history at the Ohio State University and Associate Curator at the Columbus Museum of Art, Ohio.  She developed the traveling exhibit of Burbank's works for the Butler Institute of American Art (2000-2002) with an accompanying eighty-eight page catalog.  Wolfe, whose specialty is portraiture from the American West in the late nineteenth century. She has an M.A. in art history from Ohio State University and a B.A. from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri.?Text Box: Burbank Exhibition CatalogText Box: Elbridge Ayer Burbank?Text Box: Elbridge was known by many names by his Indian friends, including “Many-Brushes” & “The Man Who Comes For Dinner.” In the art world he was considered one who paid attention to detail. His awards included the Yerkes Prize (1893), Atlanta Exposition - medal (1895), and many others. His works are on display in the Smithsonian, Newberry Library, Art Institute of Chicago, C. M. Russell Museum, Hubbell Trading Post NHS, and many others. His book, Burbank Among the Indians, ©1944 Caxton Press, should be required reading for every American. He was born in 1858, a grandson of the founders of Harvard, IL.
